Not too much, but just enough… use a light touch!

People hate to feel manipulated.

Whether we’re 5 years old or 50 we like to feel like we have control over what we’re thinking—that’s why there’s regularly a fuss about subliminal influences in advertisements.
Just as people don’t like to be “tricked” via ads they don’t want to be tricked via design—so when you scent a space or add a soundscape, for example, don’t “rub people’s nose” in what you are doing. Use the least amount of scent possible (how much scent to use is discussed in this article) and the quietest sound that can be heard.

When you respect the people who use the spaces and objects you develop, they in turn value the products of your efforts.

Search for “scents” in our search box, top right, or create your own i-journal report top left using the term “scent”.
