People creating a space rarely remember to add elements that will move gently, peacefully. Gentle movement is an important principle of biophilic design, discussed here.
The goal is to add some curtains, a wall hanging, or maybe a mobile that will move peacefully in the air current created by your home’s ventilation system. Often lovely gentle air streams move into a space through open windows, all the more reason to let the fresh breeze in, whenever you can.
You can also add wall hangings, etc., that will flutter a little as people walk by to further animate a space and make it seem like a pleasant place to spend time.
If you can’t open your windows and your ventilation system doesn’t create any air currents that you can harness, consider a quiet, not very powerful fan, placed out of view. Best is one that weakly stirs the air, not one that makes you feel cooler on a summer day or that helps you clear out the smell of the fish you cooked last week.
The places where our earliest ancestors lived their best lives were not static, they were gently and peacefully dynamic, just as the spaces where we spend our time today should be.
