Encouraging Good Behaviour

Do you have a house of unruly inhabitants? Or work with a bunch of messy sausages? Well, here at The Space Doctors are here to help! Design can encourage people to behave in ways that are socially desirable in a number of ways! Here is a little simple checklist of some of those ways to encourage good behaviour in homes (feel free to drag and drop the jpg and share on social media if you’d like, do tag us, we’d love to hear from you (Instagram @thespacedoctors Twitter@thespacedrs Facebook @thespacedoctors):
  • Making areas brighter, light-wise. We have more self-control when we’re in areas with higher levels of light intensity and in ones that are naturally lit.
  • Using warmer light.
  • Keeping visual complexity/disorder and clutter in check, as discussed in this article.
  • Can see themselves in a mirror or feel we can be seen by others (directly or via CCTV).
  • Smelling a scent associated with cleanliness, for example, of popular cleaning products.
  • Supporting a few green leafy plants, see more on Biophilic Design (and search for the keywords in the search box).
  • Inspiring awe, as discussed in this article.
