Adding a green leafy plant to any sort of space in which you find yourself is a good idea.
Research has directly linked looking at green leafy plants to:
- Lower stress levels
- Mental refreshment
- Enhanced cognitive performance
- Elevated creative performance
- Feel better if we’re sick
- Being more sociable.Mingling gets a boost!
If your life experiences indicate that you have a negative effect on plant viability (i.e., you are more likely to kill them than nurture them), you can substitute artificial plants (really realistic ones) for real ones, just make sure whatever you add to your space is green and leafy and looks like it should be watered every so often.
A few plants is all it takes—a couple a clearly in view are great, too many more and you’ll create a space where visual complexity is at uncomfortable levels. See this article for a refresher on visual complexity.
Support your green leafy friends and they’ll do wonders for you and your brain. Their continued existence is another important reason to let natural light flow into your home.
