Seeing red gives us a burst of strength, literally. If you’re a weightlifter with a home gym, it’s the colour you want to be looking at when you’re working out with your weights. Red gives you a strength boost whenever you need it for an intermittent, short duration task that requires simple motor skills.
If you’ll be doing something that requires strength and power over time, however, such as riding a home exercise bicycle, seeing red will not work as well for you as another surface colour. It seems that red does not have the beneficial effects on continuous exercise it does with on-again-off-again activities.
