More elbow grease than cash required!

  • Most of us need to paint from time to time and depending on the colours on your walls now, you might decide that repainting sooner is a better idea that waiting. Have a look at some other colour based articles we’ve written, to inspire you. To make your rooms seem particularly spacious, make sure that your ceilings are painted white or the very lightest of blues.

  • If you do have nature visible outside your window and you can spruce it up (great nature pun there!) some, often there’s more elbow grease than cash required to do so. Raking, weeding, and pruning might transform what you can see out your window from a jungle scene that seems fresh out of a children’s picture book, complete with branch arms all ready to reach out and capture you, into a well-cared for space that welcomes viewers and visitors.  In gardens, we like an approach that provides ease of movement and places where we might hunker down for a snooze without concerns about trouble approaching (tree houses carry this to the logical extreme).  Jungle-y places don’t provide the sorts of speedy exits that our prehistory-based brains prefer and although we might like to look at them from time-to-time, we can’t fully relax in them.  You might decide to invest in plants for your garden, but often cuttings from the plants of friends and neighbours work well as long as you can be patient.  Also, there’s many a garden gnome or other garden decorative item sitting on the curb on trash day, waiting for a new home.

  • Remember the nature photos we talked about you printing a few paragraphs ago? You can invest in art, at all price points, that has the same sort of look and thereby accomplishes the same sorts of things in your head.   Why not create your own art?  It’ll make your home seem even more truly yours.

  • And don’t forget to put plants in your space too. We’ve written quite a bit on why plants are good for you. You might have heard about Biophilic Design? Well that’s the design principle that uses nature and natural elements in design to create happy healthy spaces.
